We consider alterations a personalized service with numerous questions, requests, and concerns, but here are a few of the most common questions our team has compiled along with answers to check if we might be the best alterations fit for you.

If you have further questions, please reach out and/or ask your seamstress at your personalized fitting.

01

Do I need my shoes?

While you do need shoes for your fitting, you do not need them to request a fitting. Since we often book in advance, you may want to go ahead and request a fitting then do some shoe shopping

03

What are "Basic Wedding Dress" alterations?

Basic alterations includes: Taking in straps or pulling up shoulders, taking in the side seams, hemming, and adding a bustle to the back to pull the train up and out of the way for the reception.

05

What are some alterations not included in Basic Alterations?

These include alterations that customize the gown to you. While they deal with fit, think of them as coloring outside the designer's lines. This can include but is not limited to: Adding push up bra cups, lowering a neckline, shortening the train, cupping the gown under the butt, changing dress cup size (possibility depends on dress), opening a slit, or adding buttons.

07

What is your payment policy?

At first appointments, we require either half the alterations cost down or $250 for bridal or $75 for formalwear. The remaining balance is due at the second appointment even if future appointments are booked. Payment plans are available if needed but total must be paid before pick up. Electronic forms of payment (i.e. credit card, apple pay) are subject to a 2.5% transaction fee.

02

How much do alterations cost?

This varies significantly based on what the gown needs. For "Basic Wedding Dress Alterations" (see 03), our average can be anywhere from $460-$600 before tax. This includes two private fittings in our alterations space, text reminders, and a final try on scheduled closer to your wedding date.

04

How much do formal gown alterations cost?

Although formalwear is often simpler than wedding dresses, the pricing still varies based on both alterations needed as well as the dress itself. So it's hard to give even a ballpark figure. You can request an appointment and ask for a quote before you agree to book.

06

I'm looking for shapewear, any recommendations?

We aren't always fans of shapewear as it can create creases and lines depending on where the shapewear ends. If you really prefer shapewear, we recommend buying a few options to try on at your first appointment and return what doesn't work.

08

Do you steam gowns?

Yes! This is an add on service so pricing varies based on gown. Although steaming/pressing is an extra charge, we do offer discounted rates to clients who use Fairy Godmother Tailoring for their alterations. If you had your dress, altered elsewhere, please get in touch to get a quote and timeline for steaming/pressing.

I had an amazing experience with Andra and her staff. I mostly worked with Bri and she was wonderful she encouraged me to speak up and made sure I was 100% happy with my dress end result. They even altered my rehearsal dinner dress with little notice on my end. Some things that's stood out to me are def the privacy of each appointment and the positivity from all the staff I always felt like a Bride and I never felt like I was asking too much.
